Coach Shofner Leaving Wisconsin?
A reader has posted a comment here saying that "There was an email sent to the CRCA list that the Wisco lightweight women's position is open. The full posting is expected later this week."
At this point I would consider this a rumor, although this seems to be a pretty good source. This could also be the assistant's position, although I'm sure the poster would've caught that. If anyone has any more information, let me know. I'll try to track it down myself as well.

This is all it said...
Wisconsin will be hiring a new Varsity Lightweight coach - job posting coming out later in the week.

hallelujah!
This 'hallelujah' comment is completely unneccessary and very imature. Coach Shofner took what had always been a team with great potential and passion that never quite lived up, and turned them into three time national champions. Surely there will always be disagreements between coaches and rowers: questions over training schedules, athlete selection, and handling of team psyche. College coaches walk a tightrope between too much and not enough. When is the crew overtrained and burnt out, when are they in top shape and hungry for success? This job is an exceedingly tough one, and to make a boat go fast AND try to please a group of twenty teenagers all the time is a tall order.
I can say with the confidence of a first hand observer that Coach Shofer has been a blessing to the Badgers. The rowing of her crews these past few years has been superb in form and style which, along with the caliber of the athletes at UW and appropriate training, has led to speed on the water. Additionally, she has been an advocate for the entire sport of lightweight women's rowing.
I suspect this comment may have come from a rower who has never felt the frustration of unrealized potential. The departure of Coach Shofner from UW is a great loss not only for the Badgers, but also for the lightweight community.
On behalf of Wisco lightweight rowers, alumni, and supports, I would like to thank Coach Shofner for what she had done for the team and wish her well in her future endeavors. She will be missed, I am sure.
Rowing News has a poll on their website asking who had the gutsiest performance during the championship season...wisco is ranked last right now!!! :(
where is coach Shofner going?
The "hallelujah" comment is subject to being interpreted as casting a negative light on the departing wisco coach, as did a preceding comment. On the other hand, it could interpreted positively as in, "Hallelujah! Someone else (Georgetown, Radcliffe, Princeton, etc.) might now have a chance to win a national championship in women's lightweight rowing!"
Just a thought.
Hey I wrote the "hallelujah" and did not intend it as an insult to Shofner, I've never even met her, I just thought with her gone my team might have more of a chance to beat wisco (as interpreted by the previous post). So don't jump to conclusions!
